BUCKS OPEN STUDIOS: HELEN TAYLOR IN THE ART SPOTLIGHT

Bucks Open Studios begins again on Saturday (June 11) and Helen Taylor, a lady who has been at the forefront of many an arts projects in the new city, is participating.

Her creativity has been utilised with her work as a community artist, as an adult education tutor and workshop leader, and more recently as director of MK Arts for Health.

I have always really loved drawing, painting and making things, but I was unable to go to University at the age when most people go, and at that time getting a degree was not something I ever thought I would be able to do,” Helen says.

But Helen was drawn to the form and got back to education while in her 30's.

She studied hard – enough to gain a first class degree, and then a Masters degree in printmaking.

And she put her talents to wonderful use with Arts for Health, working with various community groups and children to colour up the courtyard gardens and corridors of the health hub, cheering the surrounds for those who have to make use of its facilities.

But Helen gave up that role to allow her the time she craves to spend on her own artwork, which you can see as part of the Bucks Open Studios programme. She took part last year and had such a good time that repeating the event was an easy decision.

Helen will be showing work inspired by our beautiful 'Green City.'

MPMG Tree Cathedral Helen

My main interest and inspiration in my art has always been the natural world and living forms. I am especially interested in trees and plants,” she said.

I usually work in printmaking, ranging from etching to relief on woodblock and Lino.

Recently I have focused on landscape, and I am now working on prints relating to the area near where I live in MK, particularly the Tree Cathedral which I think embodies all that is great about living in our beautiful green city,” she added.

Her studio in Great Linford will be open for visitors as follows from Saturday and through to June 26:

Mon, Tues, Wed, Thurs: 10am-3.30pm

Sat: 11am-7pm

Sun: 11am-4pm,
