OLD STRATFORD PRIMARY SCHOOL PUPILS SHOW FLAIR AT MK GALLERY PROJECT SPACE

A Walk Along the River is the title of an exhibition opening this Thursday (March 5), at MK Gallery Project Space.

It features poetry, leaf collages, delicately detailed drawings, river reflections, watercolour landscapes, and mixed media picture postcards, and all the contributed pieces are by Year 4 pupils from Old Stratford Primary School.

An observational walk along the banks of the River Ouse proved the inspiration behind the works, which have captured the organic shapes, textures and muted colour palette of a winter walk along the river.

The exhibition also includes a collaborative sculpture of the riverbank made by pupils in a workshop during a recent visit to MK Gallery.

At first glance all seemed dormant but as we looked more closely, hidden winter jewels appeared.” said art teacher Nichola Clarke.

The winter palette was punctuated by lichen covered branches and red berries (undiscovered by hungry birds). Between the deepest greens and browns, pockets of lime and plum were vying for our attention.

Bull rushes stood tall and proud, delicate skeletal seed heads were snapping in the wind. Heavy fallen branches, just touching the water, created rippled reflections,” she added.

Our inspiration was in place!”

Members of the public are invited to join teaching staff, pupils, their family and friends at Thursday's exhibition preview between 6 and 8pm.

A walk along the river runs until March 29.
