BOOK RELEASE & TALK: ZEPPELIN NIGHTS - LONDON IN THE FIRST WORLD WAR

Bletchley Park continues its WWI theme this weekend (Sun, May 17), inviting author Jerry White (below) along to discuss his new book, Zeppelin Nights: London in the First World War.

The engrossing read gives an overview of the Zeppelin raids and the shortcomings they exposed in London's defences during the troubled times.

Zeppelin Nights examines how raids on London had been expected from the moment war was declared, prompting precautionary measures including nighttime blackouts and the installation of guns on prominent buildings.

But in May 1915, the raids began regardless, and Londoners mixed responses spanned the sangfroid to absolute blind panic.

Jerry has been writing about London history since the early 70's, sharing his passion with a career in local government - he is a former Chief Executive of the London Borough of Hackney.

Tickets for Sunday's talk are £25 which includes tea and cake and a book signing.

You will also be able to wander the site in general.
