Fair/passes the time

Synopsis

A furloughed convict (Chris Hemsworth) and his American and Chinese partners hunt a high-level cybercrime network from America to Hong Kong and Jakarta.

Review

Director Michael Mann's frenetic cyber-crime thriller reveals more of star Chris Hemsworth, as a cybercriminal released from prison to stop a very clever hacker, than anything else.

Torso, hair, face and incredible forearms, they are all on show in an unadulterated display of 'equal objectification', so objectify away ladies as you see more of him than his female co-stars (sorry guys, especially when she is the very pretty Wei Tang).

It almost, but not quite, masks the almost sleepwalking nature of his performance. It's left up to laconic Viola Davis as the FBI agent who recruits him to carry the film dramatically (and with what seems minimal effort).

That said, Mann is an exceptional hand to control this sort of film and throws a veritable arsenal of cinematic tricks to keep one's attention from wavering. A breathless joyride despite the longueurs.
