Read all about it: Greg Rutherford releases Unexpected this week

He has done himself proud, and in his home town of Milton Keynes we are proud of Greg Rutherford - one of the most successful British athletes of all time. How amazing does that still sound?

Everyone remembers Greg’s Gold winning appearance at the Olympics in 2012, of course, when 45 glorious minutes united Greg, Jessica Ennis and Mo Farah in glory.

Plenty has happened since then, but we don’t need to chart every high and low, and nor do we need to dig deep into his past to find out what makes Greg tick - because he has revealed it all in his memoir, Unexpected, which hits stores this Thursday, and is a truly entertaining, engrossing and at times unexpected read, hence the title.

“I felt the time was right to explain the background to my life and give the readers a real insight into everything from the struggles I faced growing up, which will prove quite unexpected to some, to my life as an athlete, from the highs of winning gold on Super Saturday in the London Olympics to the lows of injury concerns, and dealing with the cheats that taint our sport,” Greg says.

From sometimes sleeping rough as a teenager, to dazzling on the Strictly dance floor, Greg’s story makes for fascinating reading.

Unexpected will be published by Simon & Schuster on Thursday, November 3.
