SHAKESPEARE ON SCREEN: TITUS ANDRONICUS AT CINEWORLD MK

The fifth season of Shakespeare's Globe on Screen continues this week, with one of the darkest and most seminal productions in the Globe's history, Titus Andronicus.

This cinema release is the first Globe on Screen to receive a 15 certification, and comes with a promise that audiences will be on the edge of their seats from start to grisly end.

The live cinema broadcast will show at Cineworld in Xscape on Thursday (April 9), and stars William Houston as Titus, and Games of Thrones actress Indira Varma as Tamora.

It is perhaps not for those of a sensitive disposition: "We even had vomitors," Houston shares.

"Titus Andronicus"

"One guy in the balcony was voluminous!  But when you hear skulls hitting the concrete, you have to push through it. "Sometimes it was very, very surprising when someone went down right at the front of the yard."

Ian Russell was responsible for capturing the stage production on film.

"My aim is for people who go to see it in the cinema to forget they're in one; your attention shouldn't be taken away from the play by the way it is filmed," he said.

"Any shot change should always be motivated - if it is, then people won't think twice about it and will be drawn into the performance."

Fancy a grisly night out at the multiplex?
