CALLING VINYL JUNKIES: CELEBRATE YOUR RECORD STORE DAY PURCHASES WITH MOMENTS IN WAX

We always being 'told' how to best digest our music: It used to be that a C90 tape was the only 'reel' way, then marvellous little compact discs crept in, then downloading...nowadays, it's easier to source your most favoured sounds online than it is to find a retailer selling music, of course. But really, nothing is so alluring as a tasty slab of vinyl. Whether it's trawling the charity shops and possibly leaving triumphant with a rare gem, or pre-ordering your favourite artists' new release, the lure of vinyl is as strong today as it ever was, for plenty of us. Interest, and sales in the black stuff is growing.  Last month, the seventh annual Record Store Day, when artists issue rare, limited releases, proved the point. SpunOut Records in Northampton was the closest store to Milton Keynes taking part in the day, and www.totalmk.co.uk joined the early morning queue with high hopes of bagging our most favoured releases.  The queueing started in earnest - at 3am! This year though, One Direction fans mingled with hardcore Dinosaur Jr freaks - such was the wide appeal of artists signing up to do their bit to help swell the coffers of indie stores and keep the grooves going.   photo-2 This week, Moments in Wax, the MK-based club dedicated to all things vinyl,  invites you to bring along the fruits of your Record Store Day labours, and give them an airing. So bag them up, and go show them off proudly! "Give your 33 & 45 RPM records a spin..." encourage those behind Moments in Wax, "It doesn't matter if you own one or 1000 records; everyone is welcome." Wednesday's event (May 7) will run between 7pm and 9.30pm at The Buszy on Eldergate. The over 18s only event is free to attend, there's loads of free parking and a licensed bar. Moments in Wax: Possibly the only place where getting the needle is a good thing...
