Competition: Win copies of John Denver: The Ultimate Collection with Total MK

John Denver died 20 years ago on 12 October 1997, but his legacy lives on, and how better to show it than with the new CD release ‘The Ultimate Collection’ from the country-folk legend?

The Ultimate Collection - which last week went straight into the Top 5 of the album charts, is a jam-packed album of his best known tracks including the hits Annie’s Song, Leaving on a Jet Plane, Take Me Home Country Road and many more that continue to emotionally connect to listeners worldwide.

In 1969 after being in various bands, John Denver decided to take on the music scene alone. That same year, he recorded his debut LP ‘Rhymes and Reasons’ which contained one of his best-loved compositions Leaving on a Jet Plane, an international chart topper for Peter, Paul & Mary.

John Denver was launched him into the limelight as a solo performer in 1971 with the album ‘Poems, Prayers & Promises’. He achieved superstardom thanks to the million-selling hits Take Me Home, Country Roads and Sunshine on My Shoulders.

In the years to follow, Denver also scored with the track penned for his wife Annie's Song and Back Home Again and by 1974 was firmly established as America's best-selling performer; albums including 1975's ‘An Evening with John Denver’ and ‘Windsong’ proved phenomenally popular, and Denver continued to top the singles charts with efforts including Thank God I'm a Country Boy and I'm Sorry.
