DOWNLOAD: BLACK STAR RIDERS IN THE TOTAL MK HOT SEAT

Black Star Riders will grace the Encore Stage at next month's Download Festival.

The band released its second album, The Killer Instinct, earlier this year and followed the release with a full co-headlining UK tour with Europe.

Explaining the album's title, frontman Ricky Warwick said: "Life's not fair, never has been, never will.  Sometimes you have to live with a killer instinct just to survive in the ongoing pursuit of happiness."

Ricky's pretty happy to be returning to Donington Park, mind you.

He gave us the lowdown on Download...

How special is it to be playing at Download - the British home of rock and metal?

It's an institution I grew up with.  From being a fan and going to the festival and then getting the opportunity to grace its stage is amazing.

What can the Download faithful expect from your set?

Songs from both Black Star Riders albums with some classic Thin Lizzy thrown in for good measure.

Anthemic, melodic, dirty rock n roll played from the heart and delivered in soul

How will you spend the rest of your time on site?

Hanging out, talking with friends, enjoying the vibe and the bands

Anyone else you are keen to check out ?

I'm looking forward to seeing Marilyn Manson

Tell us about your best - and worst - festival experiences

Playing at Donington with The Almighty, Thin Lizzy and of course the Black Star Riders are my best experiences.

Worst?  There isn't one

And what three festival essentials should Download ticket-holders be sure to pack before heading to the site?

Rainwear, pocket wipes and a sense of humour

> Black Star Riders play the Encore Stage on Saturday, June 13.
