FolkLaw and Levi Cuss join Forest Folk and Roots for birthday celebrations

Forest Folk and Roots celebrate it’s second year of bringing quality acoustic live music to Cranfield with the exciting and energetic fiddle-driven folk-rock band FolkLaw this week.

They'll take the stage at The College Arms Bar on Friday (May 26) - the final night of FolkLaw’s current UK and European tour promoting their third studio album “Smokey Joe”.

The band’s songs of protest and passion get your mind thinking and your feet tapping - intricate fiddle and mandola, award-winning songs and earthy attitude-laden vocals are backed by layered vocal harmonies, guitars, cahon and the marching tom-drum,

“Smokey Joe” is lighter than their previous releases, with less anger at the world and a real passion for life in the lyrics.

Expect a sound somewhere between New Model Army and The Levellers and you'll be happy with the results!

"It’s certainly going to be a wild and lively night - surely one not to be missed - there is a promise of some crowd-surfing fiddle antics," promise promoters.

Support comes from Canadian roots-bluesman Levi Cuss – the raw honesty typical in his music speaks of a life of redemption; from troubles with the law, addiction, incredible sadness and loss, to love, strength and perseverance.

After the release of his debut album, “It’s War” in 2013, Levi toured extensively throughout Western Canada and following residencies in Banff headed south to Nashville, Tennessee to record his second album, “Night Thief”, which quickly garnered significant attention in the roots/blues scene. – he is now touring Europe promoting this album.

Cuss’ personal influences are those who have overcome diversity, he sees deep beauty in human strength, grit, and determination. His musical influences include the likes of Jason Isbell, Townes Van Zandt, and Steve Earle; the dark, honesty in his music reflects these influences.

It;s a great celebratory package - go enjoy.

Tickets are priced £10 (£5 for students) and are available direct from The College Arms Bar or online here
