Gig: Xylouris White and Still House Plants check in at Milton Keynes Gallery

Xylouris White is a collaboration between legendary Cretan lute player George Xylouris and Jim White, an icon of the underground music scene and founding member of The Dirty Three, and the duo bring their live sounds to Milton Keynes Gallery later tomorrow night, as part of the Thursday Scratch Night series.

While coming from different parts of the world and from vastly divergent musical backgrounds, the connection between the duo is palpable from the first note of their debut LP, Goats (produced by Guy Picciotto of the stupendous Fugazi).

Their most recent release, Black Peak, on Bella Union, sees the duo expand their rich and inventive instrumental playing and further foreground Xylouris’ haunting baritone voice.

Support will come from Still House Plants, a Galswegian trio who are a bit 'post-modern power ballads meet free jazz.'
'Fragments of guitar, melismatic vocal mantra, saxophone, bass, and percussion combine in a spirit of glowing minimalis m to create something truly wonderful,' is the official blurb.

Tickets to tomorrow's show (June 1) are £8 in advance, £10 on the doors.
