IF:FEST 2016: THE COUNTDOWN HAS BEGUN!

You have to wait for good things, it's just the way life is.

And those who have been patiently awaiting their fill of colourful arts events at the IF:Fest will be duly rewarded this July, when the biennial event shakes the new city to its artistic core once more.

In 2014, Total MK soaked up plenty of IF fun - we hopped into bed in thecentre:mk to enjoy The Lock Shift Songs, met the not-very-chatty Dreamers who journeyed from Station Square to Campbell Park, and entered the colourful world of the Architects of Air's Pentalum.

And anyone who caught one of the terrific performances of Faust courtesy of Southpaw Company won't forget it in a hurry either.

But organisers have another swell amount of performances, installations and commissions ready for you this summer, including Richard Dedomenici's Superman IV Redux.

Some of you will know that Superman IV: The Quest for Peace was part shot here in Milton Keynes, and three decades later, live artist Richard DeDomenici is bringing his Redux Project, a series of witty and disruptive recreations of scenes from popular films, to town.

Using local folks, he will reshoot key scenes from the film at their original locations – including those flying scenes set out the front of MK Station.

A week after filming, a pop-up gallery-cum-cinema setting will air the original and the reshoots.

After the aforementioned Dreamers proved a winning formula, a similar process returns - this time courtesy of Station House Opera and their delivery, Dominoes.

Thousands of white breezeblocks will create a two kilometre moving sculpture snaking its way through the place we call home.

They will fall, sometime disappear and then resurface, and always make for a talking point...

The ever-popular Spiegeltent is back in play with another packed programme of goodies to tempt you inside – from the Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain to funny fella Mark Watson (above) and two-tone aces The Selecter (below).  If you've seen them, you'll know how good Pauline Black and her mob are.  If not?  You are in for a treat!

And we are more than a little excited by the news of the Ian Dury inspired show, Reasons to be Cheerful.

Family fun is all sorted too with the Family Focus Series offering good things for little folks – from Micro Shakespeare to the Always Drinking Marching Band.

The 2016 Festival is the biggest yet with a wide-ranging programme,” festival director Monica Ferguson said.

Inspired by Milton Keynes, world class artists are creating adventurous new and bespoke projects, and more local people than ever before will be taking part."

Chair of IF, Dr Ann Limb CBE DL added: “The International Festival is central to Milton Keynes' city-making agenda and long-term artistic and cultural ambitions, particuarly this year as the city approaches its 50th anniversary in 2017.

Engaging with more and more residents and visitors to the city with each edition and focusing a national and international spotlight on Milton Keyes, the Festival is great for businesses, tourism and our local economy,” she added.

We will bring you much more on this year's IF:Fest right here in the lead up to July's 10 day spectacle.
