On Track: Honeyblood talk music with Total MK

Honeyblood issued their second album at the tail end of last year.

Babes Never Die, a follow-up to 2014s eponymous debut, made it to the shelves in time to make many of '16's Best Of lists.

And perfect score reviews were plentiful too.

The title?
"I have those words tattooed on my ribs," front woman Stina Tweeddale shares.
"I guess you could call it a war cry; to have the faith to never let yourself be defeated."

The Glasgow-based duo - completed by drummer Cat Myers - delivered tales of drama, horror, lust and laughs on that recent album.

"There's a dark undertone throughout. I wanted gruesome romance stories rather than whiny love songs," Stina explained.

There is a fiercely supportive fanbase in place backing the band too, and support slots alongside Foo Fighters, Belle And Sebastian and Wolf Alice have helped push their sounds.

Now they are out headlining their own Spring dates, which will see them smear Bedford Esquires in punk-rock, disco-punk and rhythmic flair on Thursday (April 27).

Stina went On Track with Total MK and shared some of the sounds, and moments, that make her tick...

The song that first awakened your musical senses
The Breeders - Do You Love Me Now

Physical or digital - how do you take your music?
Both - I listen to a lot of stuff through digital, but still buy vinyl.

The first time you thought 'Music - this is the job for me'
I’ve never once thought of it like that! It’s just something that happens to be my job.

Your best on stage memory...
Supporting the Foo Fighters, hard to top that one really...

And the worst gig you've ever done
Being so jetlagged we both couldn’t stop laughing and therefore couldn’t sing or play the rest of the song.

What made you take up singing?
A music teacher told me I could sing, before that I always thought I didn’t have a good voice.

Which one song by another artist do you wish you had written
Somebody To Love by The Bee Gees

And one - by yourself - which holds special significance
All of them do, but probably our latest single 'Babes Never Die'

Are there any current influences you look to
I fall more madly in love with Angel Olsen every time she releases something, so glad she makes music for us mere mortals to hear.

If you could step into the shoes of another musician, living or dead, who would it be and what would you do?
Nina Simone or Jeff Buckley and I’d sing my head off.

And any genre of music that you simply can't stand?
Not really, I usually can find something I like about most stuff.

Finally, plug your show in Bedford - what can we expect?
Some songs & some banter
