ON TRACK: NOAH STEWART ANSWERS OUR QUESTIONS

American tenor Noah Stewart is back in the UK with a new show, So In Love, which will visit The Stables in Wavendon later this month.

The acclaimed tenor will perform some of opera's best-loved arias, music from Broadway, and will also pay homage to music that inspired him as a young boy.

In February, Noah debuted with the English National Opera in the Queen Indian, and followed that by returning to the Royal Opera House in the role of B.F.Pinkerton in Madame Butterfly.

Join the bastion for the new generation of opera performers and lovers when he visits Milton Keynes on April 23.

Noah answered our On Track questions...

The song that first awakened your musical senses?

Fat's Waller's "Your Feet's Too Big" from the musical "Ain't miss behavin".

It was the first time I became a character onstage and truly lost myself. It definitely was a game changer and is probably the reason I chose a career in music.

Physical or digital - how do you take your music?

Both. Physically, there's nothing like have a score or piece of music in your hands.

At the same time, some of the greatest pieces of music cannot be dictated. It's the feeling and the emotion.

The first time you thought 'Music - this is the job for me'

The first time I won my first vocal competition. I was 12 years old.

Your best on stage memory...

La Boheme at New Orleans opera.

My family is from New Orleans and it was their first time seeing me perform. It was a special run for me. The cast was also superb.

And the worst gig you've ever done?

I will just say nothing ever surprises me. Wink.

What made you take up singing?

Mom was a  single parent and sitters were expensive, so I joined every club that interested me.

I never thought the singing bit would last.

Which one song by another artist do you wish you'd have written?

I will always love you - Dolly Parton

And one - by yourself  - which holds special significance?

Without a Song, because it marked a shift in my career.

If you could step into the shoes of another musician, living or dead, who would it be?

Prince

Are there any current musical influences that you might look to?

I love pop culture. I enjoy the musical progression of an artists life and career.

I also love the constant flow or new material.

And any genre of music that you simply can't stand?

If done well, no.

Finally, plug The Stables date for us - what can we expect?

You can expect to hear favourites from some of the most beloved melodies of Opera and some wonderful songs from the world of Broadway and Musical Theatre.

I'm thrilled to be returning to The Stables and can't wait to share this new program with all of you!
