PICK OF THE WEEK: 'Music in the Garden: A Dankworth Family Festival'

This weekend, the Dankworth family and friends will come together in Dame Cleo Laine's enchanting private gardens for a series of equally enchanting performances.

The 2016 ‘Music In the Garden: a Dankworth Family Festival,' event will include performances by actress, comedian and columnist Maureen Lipman CBE, internationally renowned classical guitarist Craig Ogden, poet and publisher Jeremy Robson, and, of course, a full complement of Dankworths.

British jazz diva Jacqui Dankworth and her husband American singer/pianist Charlie Wood host an opener for the festival on Friday (July 15) when they share a concert at The Venue MK featuring songs from their newly released duet recording, “Just You, Just Me”.

The 2016 ‘Music In the Garden: a Dankworth Family Festival’ itself will feature more musical treats.  There will be a performance from award-winning bassist Alec Dankworth and his daughter, multi-talented multi-lingual vocalist Emily Dankworth, presenting their Spanish Accents project (complete with Flamenco dancing!).
Dame Cleo herself, joined by family and friends, will deliver a rare public performance of Cleo’s and John Dankworth’s groundbreaking “Shakespeare and All That Jazz”, to mark Shakespeare’s 400th anniversary this year.

The garden will be one of the stars of the show.

'Pack up an umbrella, a bottle of wine and a smile,' and prepare to be wowed.

If it does rain,  limited covered seating under the awning and the local village hall (where there will also be art on display during the day) will be used for emergency concert performance use.
