The Icicle Works bring the hits to Bedford Esquires

After receiving rave reviews throughout their spring tour The Icicle Works are back on the road, performing a two and a half hour show of the music of Ian McNabb and The Icicle Works.
They bring the noise to Bedord Esquires on Thursday (October 5).

Named after a 1960s science fiction story, they released a number of albums that, while regularly inconsistent, featured scattered moments that helped define the type of big-sounding guitar rock that set them apart from fellow Liverpool-based groups like Echo & the Bunnymen and the Teardrop Explodes.

Singer/guitarist/keyboardist Ian McNabb had played in a number of other groups from a young age, including Young World, which also featured drummer Chris Sharrock.

McNabb and Sharrock went on to play with different acts but they eventually decided to form a group of their own, with the addition of former Eleanor bassist Chris Layhe. Although they released a low-key six-song cassette that was sold at Liverpool’s Probe Records, they didn’t make their official debut until October 1982, when the “Nirvana” single which went up to number 15 on the U.K. chart.

McNabb went on to pursue a solo career but a reformed Icicle Works have been performing occasional live dates since 2006 and this is a rare chance to see them on your doorstep. Expect to hear classic hits such as Birds Fly (A Whisper to a Scream), Love is a Wonderful Colour, Hollow Horse and many more.
