This week at The Stables: With Duncan Lamont, Shakatak, Noah Stewart and more...

Have you heard the one about the iconic children's TV character Mr Benn, who enters the fancy dress shop only to emerge later as the band leader of his own 17-piece jazz orchestra?
It's true, we promise!

This Thursday evening (September 8) composer Duncan Lamont will revisit much of the music he wrote for the much-loved 1970s series, with a concert that boasts some of the finest soloists in the UK giving the premiere performance of the Mr Benn Suite.

Duncan, who is still active as both a saxophonist and a composer, will also use the gig to talk about his career in general - so of course Mr Benn will get a look in.
Stables founder Dame Cleo Laine is among the many artists to record Lamont's songs, and Elaine Delmar will be on the stage performing a selection of them.

Richard Digance makes a return on Friday (September 9).  He's a scene stalwart and a man who has a BAFTA nomination for his work as a TV entertainer, and a Gold award from The British Academy of Composers and Songwriters, for his troubles.

His career has many, many highlights, but we reckon three of them must surely be support slots with Steve Martin  and the much-missed Robin Williams, and a guitar duet with Brian May from Queen.  Cool, cool, cool!

Shakatak, who we remember best for that 80s smash Down on the Street, come down to Milton Keynes on Saturday night for a date at the Wavendon venue, and there are Carnatic Connections to explore on Sunday (September 11) with Jyotsna Srikanth and the Bollywood Brass Band.
'Virtuosic violin playing and funky brass and drums' is the calling.  Video sequences from original films will be synched to live music, and make it along early doors for an intro performance from the MK Music Entertainment Hub and young local musicians.

The De Temps Antan arrive in an explosion of violin, accordion, harmonica, guitar, bouzouki and arm, foot tapping on Tuesday (September 13).
Join Quebec's hugely popular folk trios as they deliver a festive atmosphere and pull material from their current Ce mode ice-bas for your enjoyment.

Tir na nÓg play Stage 2 on Tuesday (September 13) night.

John Peel was one of their earliest supporters, and way back in the 70s, they supported artists as diverse as Jethro Tull, The Who, Roxy Music and Steeleye Span!
A new album was released in 2015 - their first since 1973!

Last up this week, another Stables favourite, and a man with a beautiful voice - Tenor Noah Stewart.
This new show, In Love Again, will blend classical favourites with hand-picked West End and big-screen masterpieces.
