TIËSTO ON ELECTRIC DAISY CARNIVAL: 'IT'S A SYMBOL OF EXCELLENCE...'

Electric Daisy Carnival returns to the National Bowl on July 11, with a feast of the fabulous.

The world-famous dance music festival will tempt purveyors with a truly exceptional line-up of class, but more than that, EDC prides itself on providing ticket-holders with a multi-sensory feast.

And what it promises, EDC delivers.

When it comes to the line-up, you'll find none better than Grammy Award nominee Tiësto.

In 2014, he cut loose his fifth album, the major label debut, A Town Called Paradise.

He was responsible for opening the 2004 Athens Olympic Games, has headlined festivals all over the world including Coachella and there are residencies at Vegas hot-spots Hakkasan and MGM too.

When musicians want a remix of royal calibre, he's the one they call – Kanye West, Gotye and Coldplay have all made use of his talents.

Tiësto is an innovator and a scene leader, and he's coming to wow EDC this summer.

He explained what the festival means to him, and what else he has planned in 2015...

EDC boasts an unparalleled artist line-up.  Tell us what you bring to the party that is unique

I’m really comfortable working with many different styles and never worry about being pigeonholed into any one genre. I play what I like!

How important is EDC as a brand?

It’s a huge brand and very important. In the USA it’s one of the biggest stages for dance music. It’s a symbol of excellence.

Tell us about your best EDC experience so far - on stage, or off

A few years back I was traveling to EDC by helicopter and just had this moment when I was really taken back by the glow from the festival in a dark desert. I had a great sense of the scale and it was huge.

Who will you be most looking forward to checking in with on the day?

I don’t ever really have a chance to check out other performances but I always like meeting up with all the artists who are playing. Festivals are a great way for us all to catch up

Your own set aside, how will you spend the rest of the day?

Hangling out, catching up with friends

EDC takes the live experience to a new level, but how do these huge outdoor events vary from the more usual shows for you?

These big festivals offer a great platform to showcase some key new tracks and initiatives I'm currently working on. You’ll see that there are always special guests coming out with artists at big festivals, so it’s definitely more than just a usual show.

EDC aside, what does the rest of the summer have in store for you?

I’ll be playing quite a lot this summer and of course a big focus is my Las Vegas residency at Hakkasan and Wet Republic. I have a new collaboration with Martin Garrix called “The Only Way Is Up” out May 4th on my Musical Freedom label.

Give us your tips for the sounds of the summer, 2015.

The Only Way Is Up” is a big record. There’s also this artist Lucky Charmes who has a track just out called “Skank” and it’s super hot.

MOTi has a track just about to drop called “Valencia.”
