Emmerdale star shows his DIY skills at new store launch in Milton Keynes

B&Q opened the doors to its newly revamped home improvement store in Milton Keynes with a helping hand from ex-Emmerdale star, Kelvin Fletcher, on Saturday.

Kelvin tested out his DIY skills against the B&Q Milton Keynes’ store team, in a challenge to see who could make a flat pack shelving unit as quickly as possible – with keen DIY-er Kelvin beating store assistant Fran Reeve to be crowned the winner.

During the family fun day there were lots of other activities to keep guests and customers entertained, including a balloon modeller, face painter, stilt walkers, games and giveaways galore. Families could even have a go at planting their own vegetables and plants – just in time for the upcoming spring.

Martyn Buzzard, unit manager at the store said: “It was brilliant to see such a large turnout for our family fun day to celebrate the launch of our revamped store.
"Everyone loved having the opportunity to meet Emmerdale’s Kelvin Fletcher and it was great fun watching him compete in the DIY challenge against our staff.
"We hope people were inspired by the new products and services on offer in our new and improved store.

Kelvin added: “The family fun day at the B&Q Milton Keynes store was a lot of fun. Thankfully I don’t think I embarrassed myself too much in the DIY challenge, but it was tough going up against the expert B&Q staff – it was a close call."
