Sport Central welcomes the MK Dons for FA Cup training

Sport Central welcomed the MK Dons team as they trained on the brand new artificial grass rubber crumb grass pitch last week.

The training was in preparation for their important Emirates FA Cup away fixture with Hyde United on November 4 - and it paid off as the team went on to win 4 – 0 and progress to the next stage of the Cup.

Sport Central will be managed by Mobashar Mahmood, as an extension of his partnership manager, role at Hertsmere Leisure Trust.

Mobashar, also an international rugby player, was instrumental in helping the trust provide elite training facilities for the 2015 Rugby World Cup.

“Sport and community development is an integral part of leisure services, and Sport Central, is a great opportunity to enhance the lives of local residents," he said.

"We are delighted that this new facility is offering professional clubs and local organisations the opportunity to come and train and improve their sport”

His aim is now to make the centre a local sports hub for local organisations, leagues, groups of friend, and local teams who want to hire the facilities. The facilities include:

Full size 3g artificial grass pitch with rubber crumb – which can be hired out in full or in thirds for 5 a side or 7 a side football game or the full pitch for rugby matches
Double size multi-use games area marked for netball and basketball
Separate Tennis Court
Separate community rooms for hire

The centre will shortly be embarking on new projects including Walking Netball and Walking Football, which have already been established by the wider sport development team in Milton Keynes.

They have a great track record in developing projects, including for those with disabilities at existing leisure facilities run by the Trust in Milton Keynes, including:

Affordable high quality after-school project for children aged 8 – 11 years offering a mix of basketball, dodgeball and tennis
Discounted project for older adults providing bowls, short tennis and badminton
Walking Netball
Back to Netball
Badminton courses
Sport programmes for those with disabilities
