Three cheers for the success of Oktoberfest in Stony Stratford

Last Saturday the MK Biergarten and York House collaborated to celebrate the most famous of all German beer festivals.

A traditional German Oktoberfest bar, Bavarian food andoompah style music brought joy to 500 visitors.

In the main room of York House, staff in traditional Bavarian dress served Paulaner Oktoberfestbier, Hacker Pschorr Weissbier and traditional Paulaner lager. Hornes Brewery from Bow Brickhill ran a successful Real Ale bar upstairs and Purple Cat Photography captured the day with a photo booth
and pictures of the event itself.

The Biergarten team were also supported by the street food traders Good Times Cafe and Urban Grilla, who both offered food with a German twist.

A particular highlight of the day were the three oompah sets played by the local brass band, The Huffunpuffers. Many visitors remembered the band from last year’s event and they were greeted with a loud cheer as they were marching in. The most popular songs included brass renditions of ‘Happy’ by Pharrell Williams, ‘Reach’ by the Steps and many other pop classics as well as some traditional oompah tunes.

Held on the same night as Stony Stratford’s famous zombie pub crawl, the event aimed to offer a communal and friendly environment in which to enjoy beer and food and attracted many visitors which would traditionally avoid the younger crowds of the pub crawl.

Franzi Florack, the manager of the Biergarten said: ‘What a brilliant day! We are so lucky to have such amazing loyal customers who come from all over MK to our Biergarten events and Oktoberfest is always the highlight of the year! The beer was certainly flowing and everyone absolutely loved the band. I am already looking forward to next year’s event.’

This is the second year that MK Biergarten and York House centre had run the festival.

"We love working with York House because everyone is so friendly and it’s a true community venue. With our sister pub Beer Bear, just down the road, we are really starting to fall inlove with Stony and the people who live here.

"We are hoping to have our own beer van up and running soon and with big events like the Oktoberfest under our belt, the team is excited to use our experience to start a mobile bar service."
