DANCE FOR LITTLE MITES WITH NORTHERN BALLET

A pair of cheeky elves will have little ones transfixed when Northern Ballet presents its latest captivating children’s ballet on Friday (May 1).

Milton Keynes Theatre is hosting two performances of Northern Ballet’s imaginative retelling of Elves & the Shoemaker, the third instalment in the company’s Short Ballets for Small People series.

Last year’s production of Three Little Pigs (Three Little Pigs review: http://www.totalmk.co.uk/review-northern-ballets-three-little-pigs/ ) and 2013’s Ugly Duckling proved to be incredibly popular with youngsters here in the new city, thanks to the fusion of enchanting storytelling and vibrant dance. Elves & the Shoemaker is sure to be another fun-filled family favourite.

Based on the Brothers Grimm fairy-tale, Elves & the Shoemaker features a cast of charming characters in an uplifting story.

Bertie, a poor but kind-hearted shoemaker discovers that his very last piece of leather has been transformed overnight into the most magnificent pair of magical dancing shoes. But just who is the mysterious maker of them? Bertie and his wife Bettina are determined to find out!

Elves & the Shoemaker is choreographed by Northern Ballet’s resident ballet master Daniel de Andrade and is set to an original score, which is performed live. Performances last approximately 40 minutes and are the perfect way to introduce a new generation to live dance, music and theatre.

Little ones who are keen to take to the dancefloor themselves will enjoy Northern Ballet’s Elves & the Shoemaker Workshop, also on Friday May 1. Combining movement, music and storytelling, this hour-long creative dance session will be the perfect way for parents and mini-movers to get dancing and have fun together.
