BIG BAD WOLF SET TO HUFF, PUFF AND PIROUETTE ONTO MK THEATRE STAGE

Three little piggies are set to blow youngsters away when Northern Ballet makes a welcome return to the new city. Talented dancers will bring favourite fable The Three Little Pigs to life next month in a specially created short ballet designed to introduce little ones to the magic of live theatre. In this colourful production, a trio of piglets each build a house – one made of straw, one made of wood and one made of bricks. Then along comes a very hungry wolf who wants to be invited in for dinner (“little pig, little pig, won’t you let me in?”). Will any of our plucky pink pals be clever enough to outwit the big bad wolf? The Three Little Pigs has been choreographed by Northern Ballet dancers Hannah Bateman and Victoria Sibson and is performed to live music.  It is the second children’s yarn to receive the Northern Ballet treatment. Last year’s adaptation of Ugly Duckling, choreographed by company dancers Dreda Blow and Sebastian Loe, was initially funded by Leeds City Council’s Leeds Inspired fund, before receiving further funding from Arts Council England to enable the production to tour. The success of the show in encouraging children and families who wouldn’t normally engage with ballet to attend led to interest from the BBC, who commissioned a television adaptation for CBeebies. Initially broadcast over the Easter weekend in 2013, the television adaptation of Ugly Duckling won a Children’s BAFTA in November last year. At the time the award was received, more than 25,000 children and their families had seen a live performance of Ugly Duckling, more than 250,000 people had watched the television adaptation and more than 400,000 people had experienced the production through BBC iPlayer and the CBeebies website.    Ugly Duckling will be repeated on CBeebies on Easter Sunday at 11am and 4pm. Three Little Pigs comes to Milton Keynes Theatre on Friday May 23, with performances at 11.30am and 1.30pm. The child-friendly performances each last approximately 35 minutes and tickets are just £5.   Call Milton Keynes Theatre Box Office on 0844 871 7652 or visit www.atgtickets.com/miltonkeynes to book (booking fee applies).
