THIS WEEK AT THE STABLES: STARRING DES O'CONNOR, THE BARRON KNIGHTS, HEG & THE WOLF CHORUS, JASON BYRNE AND MORE...

We were going to tell you about The Shires (below) and Ward Thomas, to kickstart this week's peek into Stables events, but the new-wave of Country artists have already sold-out this Thursday evening's (Nov 27) gig. MPMG Shires 2 It seems that their flag flying for British Country music combined with their taut talent has struck a chord with you guys. Both groups have enjoyed much championing from Radio 2, and are proof that the UK has a swell pool of Americana-Country cool of its own. Ticket-holders who think they are seeing double need not blame it on the G&T this time - Ward Thomas are actually twin sisters Catherine and Lizzy, who have spent plenty of time recording in Nashville prior to this tour. The Wavendon date is the last show on the live trail, and what a way to end it, with a full capacity date. Jason Byrne (below) is up on Friday night (Nov 28), with You Name The Show. unnamed Where did the title come from? "...I'm asking the audiences to name the show...the best name will win £500, there will be a leader board on stage each night and by the end of the the tour my show will have a name, thanks to you lot,' he explains. How about Byrne to Be Wild, or Crash 'n' Byrne?  Just pushing them out there, no obligation, Jason! Expect language to make you blush and adult material and you'll not be caught unawares. The Steve Nimmo Trio will go live on Stage 2. Nimmo Brothers fella Steve is out solo with a 'full-on, electrics, no-holds-barred' format. The pre-Christmas visit by The Barron Knights (below) is an annual engagement that never fails to raise a smile among ticket-holders. MPMG Barron Knights download 1 The London Palladium has held court to many an artist over the years, but it's The BKs who hold the record for number of performances on the legendary stage - 334 in all! You'll hear all their musical classics (there are more than a dozen hit records to choose from) and newbie numbers too on Saturday (Nov 29). Join the only band that toured with both The Beatles and The Stones with their current show, Soundtrack of Our Lives. Keith James has set a dynamic and emotional collection of Dylan Thomas' most cherished poems to music, and will play them for you on Stage 2, from 8.45pm. Arrive early and pay special attention to Heg & The Wolf Chorus (top pic), who support Moulettes on Sunday. The Bristol-based folk act issued a new EP, A Tale of Sailors on Monday. The gorgeous tale of the sea is 'part modern folk conceptualisation, part homage to ages old shanty tradition...it transports you on deck, and off towards the horizon on an exciting and glorious voyage. Hop on board and ride the waves... Tickets to see 'dangerously fierce pop culture-obsessed' Canadian Katherine Ryan at the microphone are all sold-out, but how about a little Holly at Christmas on Tuesday (Dec 2)? Buddy Holly and the Cricketers will play the hits, contemporary classics and a few Christmas crackers if you fancy it. Meantime, stage 2 will host singer-songwriter and saxophonist AJ Brown, performing with his trio. Bonafide showbiz legends are hard to come by these days. Forget wannabes, reality show 'stars' and fly-by-night faces cashing in on a fickle industry, we mean real entertainers. Des O'Connor Portrait But the Stables has snagged one for us this week - Wednesday night (Dec 3) is Des O'Connor (above) night. Incredibly, our Des has starred in his own mainstream television show every year since 1963 - that's longer than anyone, anywhere in the world. He's simply unbeatable. Last up, on Stage 2 is double-Grammy nominee Kim Richey. It's a big week with the usual varied selection.  So, who will be your pick of the crop? Make your choices and call the box office on MK 280800.
