This week at The Stables: With Stray, Joe Brown, Ellie Taylor, Howard Read, Bernie Marsden & more

Back in 1966, England won the World Cup, Harold Wilson was Prime Minister, and three young teenagers formed a band at Christopher Wren School in London.

Their average age was just 14. Within three years they’d become regulars on the London club circuit, performing at such venues as Shepherds Bush Goldhawk Club, and Covent Garden’s Middle Earth, The Marquee Club and The Roundhouse, the latter of which is on record that they were the youngest band ever to play there.

In late 1969 Stray signed to Transatlantic Records and in 1970 their first, now legendary album simply titled Stray was released.

Some years later Iron Maiden recorded the song All in your mind, which was the long opening track from this album.
Stray appeared at their first Reading Festival in 1971, and made their television debut on BBC2.

Stray have continued to tour in Europe UK and Japan and have toured with literally hundreds of the biggest names in music.
Along the way they have recorded eleven studio albums, four live albums and a live DVD set.

Original lead guitar hero, and face about the MK place, Del Bromham is still at the helm and ready to wow The Stables again this Thursday evening (November 24).

He will be joined on stage by the current line up which includes Stuart Uren on bass guitar, Karl Randall on drums and making a welcome return to the band is Peter Dyer on guitar and vocals.

"We will endeavour to play a selection of our songs, recorded throughout our long career. With so many songs, the biggest problem is what to leave out," Del said.

Tickets to see stalwart fella Joe Brown at play are all sold-out for both Friday and Saturday (Nov 25 & 26), so we will move swiftly on.

But you can still book in for Friday night action on Stage 2 with Andreas Tophoj and Rune Barslund, who are two of the leading folk musos of their generation.

Their roots are set down in Denmark, and the duo draw on a wide range of inspiration gained from living in Ireland and the States, not to mention encounters with Celtic and Nordic musicians.

Ellie Taylor will be in Stage 2 on Saturday night.

The star of Mock the Week, The John Bishop Show and 8 Out of 10 Cats returns with a new stand-up show, raising giggles with that pesky bit of marriage you know as monogamy.
Strong language and rude material awaits, so it's a show for those aged 16 years and up.

The Comedy Club 4 Kids Christmas Cracker will entertain on Sunday (November 27) at 2pm.

If you crave tinsel tomfoolery and Santa doing stand-up, park the sleigh at the Wavendon haunt and let CC4K host Ternan Douieb and Howard Read entertain you with a jam-packed show.  It's an early present.

Speaking of funny fellas, Jason Byrne is along in the evening, but unsurprisingly, his show at the venue has been sold-out for aeons.
While you might be missing out on his prop-comedy if you aren't already grasping a ticket, you can get closer to the man with Total MK.

Multi-award winning British vocal group The Sons of Pitches is another capacity booking, so we'll shuffle on to Tuesday (November 29) which will be owned by Alan Barnes with Jazz Christmas Carol.

Just like the Dickens classic, this show has something for everyone.

A family night out and a treat for jazz connoisseurs, this is one of those shows for music fans, Crimbo fans and literature lovers.
Reading from the original Dickens tell the story and following each scene, eight virtuoso musicians will bring the characters and scenes to life.

This will be nothing short of superb, judging by those making the music - and Mark is joined by players including Mark Nightingale on trombone and bassist Simon Thorpe.
Brian Houston will be hard at work on Stage 2, and there will be no shortage of playability here - he's got 25 albums under his musical belt!

Brian has also stage shared with Van Morrison, Elvis Costello, Chuck Berry and Robert Plant.  You don't get to do that unless you are a bit special....
Local fella Bernie Marsden is back at his local gig on Wednesday (November 30), and unsurprisingly, this gig is hurtling towards a total sell-out too.

He's the man who gave Whitesnake some riffs, and also felt the fret for groups including UFO, Wild Turkey, Babe Ruth, Paice Ashton Lord and plenty more.
And that's without his solo success...
