Celebrating 50 years of Milton Keynes with the One World Club

There is a big night ahead at the Church of Christ the Cornerstone this month, when it hosts the World Music Festival - celebrating 50 years of Milton Keynes, and 25 years of the city centre church, Christ the Cornerstone.

It’s on Sunday 22nd October at 7.00pm in the 400 seat church, which minister, Rev. Ernesto, has transformed ino a cultural centre, right in the heart of our city.

It might be a church, but religion is still not allowed in One World Club shows.
“We’re about multi-culture, not religion. All faiths and cultures are welcome but preaching is a big ‘no no’ at One World Club,” said organiser Andy Gilbert.

Two top world music bands from London, paid for by Milton Keynes Community Foundation, are coming to play for you - and as MK Community Foundation have paid the bills, you still get free entry.

She’Koyokh play klezmer and Eastern European music, using traditional instruments such as accordian, violin and double bass etc.

We never know just what instruments they’re going to turn up with, but if you stay in your seat there must be Araldite on your chair!

Mundo Gira are a Latino influenced band, responsible for colouring up festivals throughout the summer, making this probably the smallest gig they’ve played.
Everyone gets on the floor when they’re on, unless they haven’t escaped the Araldite from when She’Koyokh were on!

Bollywood dancer and teacher Rachel Lawrence combines Indian skill, culture and glamour; Syrian singer Bilal shares his talent with authentic Arabic song. The Chinese Fusion Dancers combine colour, beauty and oriental culture, while Crossroots bring their Afro-Carribean, French/ Canadian, Polish/Jewish and English ancestries to unlock any British reserve.
Crossroots will be joined by a special guest at the show too - Milton Keynes Mayor David Hopkins will be singing a little rock n roll at the bash!

The show is happening on Sunday (October 22) from 7pm.
Parking around the church is free after 6pm, and if you think you might get a wee bit peckish, bring a snack.
