Civil War returns to Newport Pagnell!

Over the years Bury Field has been farmed, been used for burials, operated as a wartime lookout and been an area popular with courting couples...
If Newport Pagnell's vast green expanse could talk, what stories it would tell!

During the English Civil War, Newport Pagnell was recognised for its strategic importance, and taken first by the Royalists, and later the Parliamentarians, who remained in the town for years.

This weekend, Bury Field, now used in the main by dog walkers and those seeking a little tranquil time away from the every day bustle, has seen wartime action – a staging of the attack on the town by the Royalists, and the re-taking by the Parliamentarians.

The magnificent spectacle – by The English Civil War Society – was the centre-piece of a day which also featured Infantry and Cavalry drill displays.

And a trip down the old street rewarded the visitor with a peek at how life was in the town more than 370 years ago.

The free, family friendly affair continues today, with stalls and events all day before battle commences at 3pm.
