FUNDRAISING IS THIRSTY WORK AT THE BETSEY WYNNE

The Betsey Wynne festival is back this August bank holiday with a special headliner playing for you, while you keep busy supping - Gabrielle Aplin is topping the bill on Saturday, August 29.

Aplin topped the charts with her cover of The Power of Love, which was swiftly followed into the Top 10 by Please Don't Say You Love Me, and the debut album, English Rain.

In the here and now though, it's all about the new single Sweet Nothing.

Also appearing over the weekend will be The Hallelujah Trails, Dana Immanuel, Wes Finch, The Folly Brothers, Merrymouth and local band Palmerson.

Many major national drinks brands are sending their representatives to sample their products. Pimms, Ciroc Vodka, Ketel One Vodka, Tanqueray 10 gin, Martin Miller Gin, Elephant Gin, Adnams Brewery, William Chase Distillery, Remy Cointreau (for The Botanist Gin) and Coe Vintners will be on hand to keep the crowd’s thirst well quenched.

Proceeds from the event will be going in part to local charity Medical Detection Dogs who train dogs to detect cancer in urine samples, and to assist individuals managing long-term life-threatening conditions.

The charity is hoping to raise enough money to build a new bio detection unit, which would allow for a significant step forward in its cancer detection work.

The festival’s organiser, Betsey Wynne manager Ashley Sutherland said: “We expect this Drinks Festival to be even better and bigger this year. It’s starting to get a name for itself locally and further afield.

We held a similar event in May, and had over 2000 people through the venue over the two days of the festival. This time we are expecting as many as 10,000 people to come and enjoy the music, food and drink!

We hope lots of families will come for some fun in the sun. Good music, good food, good company – what more could you ask for of a summer weekend?!”
