MK ICE HOCKEY COMMUNITY HOSTS CRY EVENT IN MEMORY OF KRIS

Planet Ice will host a heart screening event in conjunction with MK's ice hockey community and Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY) this weekend. The screening will check for cardiac abnormalities in young people aged between 14 and 35 years old, and has been funded by a 24 hour charity ice hockey match held last year in memory of former player Kris Ledgard, who passed away at just 22 years old. Members of the public aged 14 to 35 can register to be screened by visiting testmyheart.org/book-appointment and CRY staff will also be on hand to advise how cardiac risk in the young can be identified. Kris' family set up the Kris Ledgard Foundation and Memorial Fund http://www.krisledgard.co.uk/ in his memory, to raise funds for CRY and enable them to screen more young people for cardiac abnormalities, and help reduce the frequency of young sudden cardiac death. The foundation also strives to support young people seeking a career in the sports industry. We were overwhelmed by the support of so many from Milton Keynes’ ice hockey community at last year’s fundraising event,” said Kris’ brother Tomas, director of the fund. faceoff Raising over £15,000 was a huge achievement, and has helped us get closer to our goal of raising £100,000, which will help to screen just under 3,000 young people.  “We’re delighted to be able to fund the screening of 200 young people at this year’s event, many of whom are ice hockey players who would have been directly involved in raising the money at the 2014 charity match.” A charity tournament and memorial game will be held over the weekend to raise funds for future screenings. The charity tournament will be running from 2.15pm until 12.00am on Saturday (Aug 1) and 11.15am and 6.45pm on Sunday (Aug 2). Spectators are welcome to show their support during the two day tournament, entry is free of charge. Face off for the Kris Ledgard Memorial Game will be at 7.30pm on the Sunday. Tickets are on sale from Planet Ice at £5, with all proceeds going to CRY. To donate to the Kris Ledgard Memorial Fund, please visit uk.virginmoneygiving.com/team/KLF15.
