MUSIC IN THE GARDEN SIGNS OFF WITH ONE MORE MARVELLOUS WEEKEND

You only have one more weekend to pop along to this year's Music in the Garden season of events, and they have some quite marvellous music to wind things up.

On Saturday morning (July 11) The Duncan Lamont Songbook will be given an outing.

Esther Bennett is a popular voice on the London jazz scene, and will step to the mic for the morning session - things start at 11.30am in Wavendon's Rectory Gardens.

She won't be alone, mind.  Special guest is Tina May (below), and the band features pianist John Crawford, bass player Mick Hutton and Duncan Lamont himself, on sax.

Lamont has worked with all the greats - Henry Mancini, Benny Goodman, Count Basie, Peggy Lee, Frank Sinatra, Fred Astaire and Paul McCartney all benefited from his talent,

His own music has been recorded by Natalie Cole, Blossom Dearie and Dame Cleo Laine.

Expect a special show from a special collective.

From 2.30pm Ian Shaw (top) will be at the helm.

The BBC award-winning jazz vocalist will be joined by legendary bass player Mick Hutton and brilliant young pianist, Jamie Safiruddin.

A mix of standards will be aired alongside re-workings of contemporary songs including pieces by Joni Mitchell, Leonard Cohen and Jimmy Webb.
