THE STABLES IN PREVIEW: PEATBOG FAERIES, JOANNA SHAW TAYLOR AND MAKUINI ALL SET TO SHOW

A great few days of gigs are lined-up at The Stables in the coming days, and the sounds on offer are as fabulous as they are varied. Here's your quick run-through.... Trailblazers of the Celtic dance music renaissance, Peatbog Faeries arrive at The Stables this Thursday evening (July 10). This is traditional Scottish music, but it has been dragged through traditional jigs and reels and on into jazz, hip hop and reggae, before arriving in the here and now. It's traditional meets 21st century, if you will, and it's for your ears only from 8pm tonight. Joanne Shaw Taylor is in charge of musical matters on Friday (July 11). Terrifically talented Dave Stewart originally discovered her, but that was a long time ago - now she is a well respected name on the British blues scene, currently working on her  fourth album. She is 'gong gathering' as she goes, and in 2010 was voted the Best British Female Vocalist at the British Blues Awards. So good is Joanne, she bagged the same award again a year later. The Etta James Songbook will take over on Saturday (July 12) night, with West End vocalist MaKuini bringing life to terrific songs like Tell Mama, I'd Rather Go Blind and At Last. Joining MaKuini (pronounced Ma Queenie, meaning White Queen) for the show will be her all-star band, The Hoo Doo Men. MaKuini - who grew up in a rural village in New Zealand, found the music of 'the greats' at a young age. Then, when she arrived in the UK she was cast opposite the late, great Yul Brenner in the King & I at the London Palladium. Her career since has been a terrific one, with no signs of fading - in 2013 she was tasked with opening the Rugby League World games. Hear what makes her so special by checking the current album, Blues in My Bones, or pop to the gig, of course. On Sunday (July 13) participants from the Stables' 2014 Rock Experience course will show the results of their productivity with the showcase, Rock Experience Concert.
