A BUSY NIGHT AHEAD: MK GALLERY LAUNCHES CADENCES, HOSTS SUMMER PARTY AND MADE IN MK RETURNS
Milton Keynes Gallery lifts the lid on its summer exhibition this evening (June 26) with Cadences preview and summer party.
Cadences brings together a selection of 40 historical and modern works, which are on loan from Holland's Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen, in Rotterdam.
Many of the pieces - paintings, prints and ceramics - share themes of flights, falling, destruction and gravity.
They range from Old Master artists to Modern artists.
Featured treasures include Frans Huys, Crispijn de Passe and Hendrick Goltzius. The earliest work figuring in the show is by the Italian Old Master Neri di Bicci.
The fall of the rebel angels with St Michael fighting the dragon (c.1480) was originally a part of a larger altarpiece, and shows angels falling awkwardly from the sky whilst the Archangel Michael vanquishes Satan in the guise of a dragon (below).
A contemporary film - Flight - by former Turner Prize nominee Catherine Yass will also feature in the show.
Admission is free, but pre-booking is essential for this evening's event, so if you haven't already, pop to the website: www.mkgallery.org
Tonight's event also marks the return of the Made in MK season of events, promoting 'Arts and Heritage for all'.
