Last June, Connie Flynn was the Artist in Residence at Sumburgh Lighthouse Shetland, and during the residency she researched the social history aspect of the keepers and their families who stayed, worked and lived at the lighthouse.
Connie recorded the experiences of the past, including the quotes and stories as a reference in her sketchbook.
She then transferred them onto cloth, constructing textile wall hangings, each one decorated with different surface effects and hand stitched techniques.
The tea stained fabric and frayed edges of the cloth is left, to give a feeling of worn cloth reflecting the weathered or windy environment at Sumburgh Head, and Connie will be sharing the results at her Finders Keepers Tales in Textiles! exhibition, which is being hosted from tomorrow (February 14) to February 25 at The Three Hares Gallery in Olney, 10.30am to 4.30pm daily.
A Meet the Artist event will also be held at the site - nestled within the Cowper & Newton Museum - on Saturday, February 25.
Connie will be at the venue between 11am and 4pm.
