EILEEN'S LIFE OF MEMORIES PRESERVED AS ARTWORK

A series of taped interviews has resulted in an extraordinary art exhibition, currently being hosted at Westbury Arts Centre. Artist Lesley Humphries recorded the memories of Eileen Hall, a resident in Leighton Buzzard who was born in 1916. "She recalled her father returning from WWI and life in Battersea as a young child, being homeless and being turned away from the workhouse,” Lesley said. KONICA MINOLTA DIGITAL CAMERAShe also had vivid memories of being a young mother during WWII and the fear of hearing the bombs overhead as she sought shelter under the stairs with her baby. She was bombed out, three times...” In all, Lesley recorded five and a half hours of interviews with Eileen, which she transcribed into 20,000 words....I have used these in the artwork as well as editing clips that play at the exhibition,” she said. KONICA MINOLTA DIGITAL CAMERA Sadly, Eileen passed away last year before seeing the work, but thanks to the tenacity and creativity of Lesley, her memories of those bygone days are preserved for all. The exhibition shows  on Saturday (Sept 27) at Westbury Farm, Foxcovert Road, Shenley Wood. Admission is free.
