Ace photographer David Tunnicliffe has a new exhibition of work, Under African Skies, on show at Inter-Action in Peartree Bridge starting this Tuesday evening (March 31).
"Having spent so many of my own days 'Under African Skies' I was drawn to the idea of depicting, through my photography, life in the Horn of Africa, from its earliest beginnings with neolithic man in the Cave of the Poisoned Arrow at Buur Heybe, Somalia to also across the border into Ethiopia with the peoples of the Abidjatta, Shalla and Awassa, in Sidamo as well as people around Debra Lebanon in Welo province," David explained.
"I also wanted to include a hint of the rich wildlife for which Africa is famed."
Elsewhere the exhibition also gives a rare opportunity to display another selection of important images: "This exhibition also offers an excellent opportunity to display, for the first time in over 70 years, a series of Italian images from the Mussolini era depicting the 48 Somali clans, suppressed by the Barre regime.
"I was entrusted with their duplication in 1983 prior to their physical destruction at the Museum of Culture and Heritage in Mogadishu," David explained, "The 'master' duplicates are now held by the British Museum for safe keeping."
Opening times are 10am - 7pm (Monday to Friday) and Saturday (1am-4pm). Sunday's by appointment only.
