A new cinema experience in Milton Keynes is offering audiences the chance to enjoy classic movies in the great outdoors – complete with a little Hollywood glamour.
Visitors to the Art Deco style showings will be treated as A-listers themselves – walking the red carpet to their seats before settling under the stars to watch the big screen deliveries.
Tickets sales were brisk for the Vintage Open Air Cinema premiere earlier this month – a showing of the cult classic Withnail and I. Coincidentally, the film was shown in Stony Stratford where it was part-filmed back in the 1980s.
“We were thrilled with the response,” said Sadie French, who runs the venture with Luke McDonnell.
“We thought there was a need to bring back some sparkle to cinema, and a capacity crowd agreed with us. Ticket holders got to settle under the stars in a comfy chair with their loved ones, tucked in with a soft blanket, surrounded by festoon lights. And we offered an usher service too, so guests didn't need to move a muscle when they were in need of refreshments!”
Luke said: “We are great advocates for bringing romance to people. It makes us feel like cinematic cupids!
“We wanted to create a magical and memorable night for our guests; one where you can fully relax and feel immersed in our nostalgic theatre setting. We think we achieved that and feedback has been great.
“We want Milton Keynes to fall in love with the glamour of the big screen again.”
The Monty Python smash-hit Life of Brian is next up at the Vintage Open Air Cinema with a screening this Saturday (August 17) at Stony Stratford's York House Centre.
The Quentin Tarantino directed True Romance will follow with a showing at The Craufurd Arms in Wolverton on Sunday, August 25.
Vintage Open-Air Cinema has forthcoming showings of The Goonies and Bohemian Rhapsody, and they are gearing up to deliver 'a smorgasbord of spook' for the creepiest season of the year, with Halloween-suitable classics The Blair Witch Project, The Shining and The Witches of Eastwick.
