While non-believers will tell you that a vegan diet is one of wilted lettuce leaves, nothing is further from the truth, and Saturday's Vegan Festival, the first of its kind in Milton Keynes, did a swell job of showing just how tasty the healthy vegan diet can be.
From spicy Indian dishes to sweet ice creams and a tempting array of vegan cheese, the festival, held at the Trinity Centre in Fishermead, was full of flavour... and the American Cheesecake on offer? Just wow.
The proof was in the eating, and most of the stall-holders sold out of their dishes and slices long before the end of the session, with hundreds of people checking in with the event.
Even hardened veggies can feel daunted at switching to a vegan diet with a misplaced fear that it will be difficult to sustain, but this festival dispelled that myth too – with networking, and sharing tips and knowledge rife.
Animal welfare groups were well represented, and a series of speakers allowed visitors to return home armed with knowledge.
“I've loved it – have learned loads, enjoyed some great food and been encouraged by like-minded people who believe that cruelty free is the only way,” one attendee said.
