'Alternative' heavyweights team up for Bedford show

Two legends of alternative music have joined forces to appear at Bedford Esquires on Thursday (October 26).

Pete Fij first came to prominence in the early nineties as the lead singer of cult shoegaze band Adorable, whilst Terry Bickers is the guitarist in The House of Love, known for such indie disco classics as 'Shine On', ‘Christine' and 'I Don’t Know Why I Love You’.

They met when both bands were signed to Creation Records, home of such heavyweights as Oasis, Primal Scream and My Bloody Valentine. With a shared love of melancholy, Pete and Terry have now teamed up to make sweet, wistful music which they described as 'like The Velvet Underground, Johnny Cash & The Everly Brothers all jamming at four in the morning, trying not to wake the neighbours up.'

Their second album, 'We are Millionaires', was released in 2017 to a succession of rave reviews. Mojo magazine described it as 'Minor key, acoustic introspection done so beautifully it’s as if they’re singing to one another in the dustlight of a pub back room’ whilst the Louder than War website called it ‘…one of the most captivating albums of this year. Darkly and poetically beautiful.'

The duo have recently recorded sessions for BBC 6Music and sold out gigs in London and their hometown of Brighton. Although Pete and Terry have both been in the music business for over 25 years, their newest incarnation is an uplifting reminder that it really is never too late to get your band together.

Tickets are £8 in advance, available here

Support on the night comes from Bedford's own Grubby Mitts and their brilliantly inventive collection of found sounds, wistful melodies and wonky electronica.
