Boomania is about to hit Milton Keynes and Bedford, with the announcement that the hip hop pioneer and 90’s icon will play dates at The Craufurd Arms and Esquires this June.
The West London multi-platinum selling, Brit- and Ivor Novello-Award-winning singer/songwriter/producer rose to fame following a chance meeting with Public Enemy in a McDonald’s back in 1987, after the Def Jam show at Hammersmith.
That meeting led to her supporting the band on their tour in the US with her Hip Hop trio She Rockers.
In 1989 she featured as featured vocalist on The Beatmasters’ Top 10 single – Hey DJ/I Can’t Dance (To That Music You’re Playing) and Betty released her first solo single, Doin’ The Do, w the following year.
Doin’ The Do and the follow-up Where Are You Baby? were both top 10 singles, having been written and demoed by Betty in her bedroom using basic sampling gear – a process she would return to in recent years.
She released two albums -Boomania and GRRR! It’s Betty Boo – and then mostly retired from the public eye.
During her time away from the spotlight she wrote hit songs for other artists including Girls Aloud, Paloma Faith, and the million-selling Pure And Simple for Hear’Say.
Cut to 2022, and Betty Boo returned with her universally critically acclaimed, radio-smash-filled, third album, Boomerang which was voted Retro Pop magazine’s Album Of The Year.
2024 saw the release of Rip Up The Rulebook – another album crackling with pop delight.
Betty Boo will be live at Craufurd Arms on June 11 and Bedford Esquires on June 28.
