Matt Woosey returns to The Stables on Wednesday (November 28).
Matt has previously played here as a solo artist but moved to Germany a couple of years ago where he has joined forces with some German musicians and will be touring and promoting his new live album.
Matt is a man in motion, an artist who slips the creative handcuffs of the modern industry, a trailblazer with no reverse gear, a guitar visionary whose palette bleeds into folk, rock, ambient and electronica. “You’ve gotto keep progressing,” reasons the singer-songwriter. “Like John Martyn. Like RobertPlant. Like Radiohead…”
From roots in Malvern, that maverick spirit has led the singer-songwriter to high places. Right now, Matt is still riding the momentum from 2016’s Desiderata: the breakthrough eighth studio release that blurred genres from roots to electronica, scored Classic Rock’s album of the month and swept up fans from across the gamutof scenes.
“Desiderata was much broader than anything I’d done before,” he reflects. “My music has to be creative and artistic. It has to keep pushing things forward.”
Nowhere is that truer than at Matt’s live shows. Following Desiderata, this spellbinding performer triumphed at the biggest venues of his career, armed with little more than an acoustic guitar and neck-tingling vocal. But there’s always a twist.
After moving to Germany – and a chance encounter with the country’s best unsung players – Matt assembled a world-class lineup, and in 2018, this questing musician promises an explosive live album and rocket-fuelled full-band sets across Europe.
“There’s something about my shows you just can’t put your finger on,” he considers, “We travel to lots of different places in the set. It’s moody, ambient, branches out into atmospheric folk and rock.
"When this group plays my music, you just get lost in it…”
