DON'T DILLY DALLY, BOOK IN FOR CRAUFURD GIG RIGHT AWAY

Katie Monks and Liz Ball met in high school and bonded over a shared love of bands like The Pixies.

They were drawn to the lackadaisical sorry of Kurt Cobain and others and turned that admiration into their own band at home in Toronto.

They called themselves Dilly Dally.

“We started a band because we believed in ourselves,” says Katie, “...and we believed in music, almost like it was a religion.”

And that belief has seen them through long enough to put out their debut album, Sore, which hit the racks last year.

As melodic as it is heavy it gives clear nods to Sonic Youth, The Distillers and even The Pogues.

All that and a bag of weed,” Katie promises of the record, which lets pop sensibilities shine through the noise.

Now a settled, swelled unit with Benjamin Reinhartz and Jimmy Tony assuming drum and bass vocals respectively, the band will play for you at The Craufurd Arms this week, with a Wednesday (June 8) slot at the Wolverton haunt.

Music to me is a cultural conversation happening all the time – and I wanna be a part of it...we came from the suburbs with complete naivety, and blind faith in our dreams,” Katie adds.

We still have that blind faith, I guess. Perhaps we are less naïve.”
