DOWNLOAD: YELLOWCARD IN THE TOTAL MK HOT SEAT

Yellowcard follow-up their recent UK tour with Less Than Jake by bill-topping at this weekend's Download Festival.

The band will headline the Third Stage at the Castle Donington site on Sunday (June 14).

Speaking about the current album, Lift a Sail, front man Ryan Key said: “We really changed lanes, I think.

It's still a massive rock record, but there were a lot of choices made while we were writing the songs that were new for us.

We continued to challenge ourselves throughout the writing and recording process.”

Yellowcard will dig into the opus during their Download set, but as the event nears, Ryan gave us the lowdown on his Download...

How special is it to be playing at Download – the British home of rock and metal?

It's incredibly special, I feel like we've been working really hard over the last few years to get on some of the bigger festivals in Europe, and Download is one of the biggest

What can the Download Faithful expect from your set?

The line-up is pretty heavy! We are hoping to represent the pop rock scene we come from well, and put on a fun, high energy Yellowcard set like we always do

How will you spend the rest of your time on site?

Hopefully hanging out with Motley Crue!

Anyone else you are keen to check out?

We are planning on running as fast as we can to catch the Crue on the main stage. Our set times overlap a bit so we are hoping to make it

Tell us about your best – and worst – festival experiences

I think the best would be Mix Festival in Sao Paulo, Brazil in 2006.

We co-headlined the festival with our friends in Fall Out Boy and it was one of the most insane experiences of our whole career.

45,000 Brazilian fans going absolutely mental

The worst would be (in a country unnamed) we showed up to a muddy folk festival and were sent to our big log cabin dressing room.

We took the stage to a few hundred folky folks and a handful of Yellowcard die hards on a stage looking out over what seemed to be wooden benches climbing up the hill side. It was a tough one

And what three festival essentials should Download ticket-holders be sure to pack before heading to the site?

I always say clean socks, toothbrush and a rain jacket. That's what I'm bringing!
