FESTIVALS: THE COUNTDOWN TO DOWNLOAD HAS BEGUN

It is one of the biggest dates on the hard and heavy musical calendar, and Download is  now less than six weeks away. Headliners Avenged Sevenfold, Linkin Park and Aerosmith (below) will be joined by artists as varied as Rob Zombie and Status Quo. Aerosmith copy You'll need plenty of stamina - with more than 140 bands ready to let rip at the 12th annual event. If you like rock, there are plenty of reasons to love Download, which is in easy reach of Milton Keynes, and transforms Donington Park into a mecca for metal every June. "This is shaping up to be the most diverse Download yet - a real tableau of the past present and future of rock and metal," says Download promoter Andy Copping. The multi-stage event - between June 13 & 15 - will also feature stalwart punk-pop courtesy of The Offspring, tongue-in-cheek hair-metallers Steel Panther (below) and the reformed Fall Out Boy. Bon Jovi guitarist Richie Sambora will appear, and one-time Queens of the Stone Age bassist Nick Oliveri is a recent addition to a crammed weekend of the heavy, heavy. When you want to step away from the music, you'll find plenty to occupy your time - after hours madness will reign at Download's raucous nightclub, the Doghouse which will be manned by star DJs, and the usual veritable feast of fun, stalls and entertainment will keep you fed, watered and amused.
