Folk singer Ana Silvera brings a wintery feel to Milton Keynes show

Following last year’s release of her Maida Vale recorded session for BBC Radio 3’s Late Junction, London-born alt folk singer-songwriter Ana Silvera will be performing songs from her winter-themed EP ‘Arcana’ on a nine date UK tour this December.

The EP, which is a mixture of original compositions and re-worked traditional folk songs, features award-winning Danish double bass player Jasper Høiby (Phronesis) and drummer Jacob Smedegaard (Beth Jeans Houghton).

Ana Silvera’s folk and bluegrass-tinged tunes ‘are lyrical, intimate and emotive, works of ‘lavish, vivid imagination’ (Metro). Drawing on stories from her own eventful life as well as folklore and myth, Ana’s songs are vignettes, poignant snap-shots in time that weave poetry and melody to magical effect.

In the past few years, Ana’s focus has been on large scale projects: composing and singing in a full- length original work Cassandra for Royal Ballet and recording her forthcoming BASCA-nominated choral song cycle Oracles at landmark London venue The Roundhouse.

Now she returns to the stage to debut new material, and will be accompanying herself on guitar and piano alongside Jasper Høiby at Saturday’s (December 16) Stables date.
