Hotly tipped all girl indie band Pins will be playing Bedford Esquires on Thursday (April 20).
Although the band formed in Manchester, drummer Sophie is actually from somewhere a bit closer to home - Northampton, but this will be the first time they have played in Bedford.
With a classic rock sound reminiscent of such alternative heavyweights as The Velvet Underground and The Jesus & Mary Chain, Pins are also heavily influenced by sixties girl groups such as The Ronettes and The Crystals.
The results are razor sharp songs with a strong sense of melody throughout. Pins will be debuting tracks from their as yet unnamed third album, including recent single ‘Aggrophobe’ which features vocals from none other than Iggy Pop.
The band are all massive fans of Iggy and they simply wrote him a letter asking whether he would like to collaborate and, much to their excitement, he agreed.
Esquires promoter Ian Kemp elaborates ‘I’ve been trying to book Pins for four years now, basically from the moment I first heard them. We had dates previously confirmed only for them to fall through at the last minute, so I’m really pleased to finally be bringing them to Bedford. Unfortunately we don’t think Iggy Pop will be joining them on stage, but we will put his name on the guestlist, just in case!’.
Support on the night will come from Kyogen and the Danish group Baby in Vain, who have previously visited the venue with the band Wytches. Tickets are £9 in advance, available now directly from www.seetickets.com or directly from the venue
