Top English instrumental folk trio Leveret are back on the road, and bring their unique blend of traditional tunes, new compositions, incredible musicianship and stunning musical interaction to The Stables as part of a 13-venue trawl.
Leveret features three of England’s top folk instrumentalists.
Melodeon genius Andy Cutting, known for his work with Blowzabella, was the 2016 BBC Folk Awards Best Musician, and has now received that award a record four times.
Concertina wizard Rob Harbron leads the English Acoustic Collective Summer School and is known for his work with The Full English (Best Group and Album, BBC Folk Awards 2014).
Fiddler Sam Sweeney (ex-Bellowhead) was the 2015 BBC Folk Awards Best Musician, directs the National Youth Folk Ensemble and has a forthcoming solo album on Island Records.
Together the trio rely on their mutual trust and intuition to create their music entirely in the moment – there are no arrangements and the focus shifts constantly and compellingly between the three musicians, all masters of their instruments.
Their playing is relaxed and natural, drawing audiences in and inviting them to share in music making that is truly spontaneous and yet deeply timeless.
The trio’s 2017 CD Inventions featured entirely original music composed by the three members of the band. On this tour Leveret return to their traditional roots, and alongside pieces from their back catalogue they will be performing their settings of newly rediscovered traditional tunes.
These pieces will feature on the trio’s next album, due for release in March 2019 -recording the day after the tour finishes.
Leveret play the Wavendon venue on Wednesday (September 12).
