Sean Grant, frontman with alternative grit-pop sorts S.G.Wolfgang has been keeping busy in the lull before the band releases its debut album. He now has a new musical plaything called Ego.
The new proposition sees Sean collaborate with his old music-making partner Mark Nicholas, who can be found hitting the hard things.
In times past they delivered as Buick McKane, but today they pack a darker punch.
If you are preparing to tip your ears their way, expect down tuned, monotonous guitar, screaming vocals and slower drum beats.
They’ve still got catchy riffs and choruses too, giving you the best of both worlds.
According to those responsible for the sounds, it is ‘heavier, sexier and angrier than Royal Blood,’ which is fine by us.
Other people have name-checked Slaves and Jamie Lenman when describing their output, but you get to have your say later this month when the fellas release their debut disc, ‘The Put This on Repeat so We Get ££’ EP.
“It’s emotive, it’s angry, it’s alternative rock punk screamy grime pop,” Sean thinks.
If you want to hit up Ego, you’ll not find them on Twitter or Facebook - the EP’s title-track is called Social Media Sux with good reason.
But they do have instagram (egoegoband) and a website here
So, it’s not quite a social media free-zone after all.
Sean said: “We did toy with the idea of none at all but in this day and age I think that would have been shooting ourselves in the foot.
“We decided the lesser evil was instagram and a website for people to find us.”
The EP is out on May 18 and Ego then cut loose with live shows - beginning at home with a gig at The Craufurd Arms on May 20. They then play The Vault, Leicester (July 7), The Jacaranda, Liverpool (July 14), Glasgow venue tbc (July 15) and the Night & Day Cafe (July 16).
