A captivating show that takes the audience on a journey into the heart of Anatolia comes to The Stables at Wavendon on Sunday (Feb 9).
Based around songs from her highly-regarded album Rüya (Dream), Olcay explores the cultures and sensibilities of the region from Istanbul to the Mediterranean and the East, meeting wandering ashik bards, 17th century poets, and mystics, reflecting through the universal language of music the rich patchwork of identities in this diverse region.
Her first album Neva was released on World Music Network and her second on ARC Music. Her new album was produced by Al MacSween and Giuliano Modarelii of award-winning world-jazz collective Kefaya and featured World Music Charts Europe’s list of 50 top albums of 2019 .
Their sophisticated arrangements and contemporary style help her Turkish and Kurdish songs cross over to any audience. Above all it's Olcay's gorgeous voice that people remember.
Respected both inside and outside Turkish and Kurdish communities around Europe, and whether as a full funky festival band or as an intimate acoustic line up, Olcay (pronounced OLdjai) captivates and inspires.
