Forever associated with that skirt-ripping phenomenon which helped them bag the Eurovision Song Contest title back in 1981, Bucks Fizz went on to become regular chart botherers in the 1980s.
They were pop royalty, and racked up more than 20 hit singles, including three number ones: Making Your Mind Up of course, but Land of Make Believe and My Camera Never Lies did the job too, contributing to record sales in excess of 15 million.
Thirty-five years on from that Eurovision win, and Mike, Cheryl and Jay – together with Bobby McVay – are touring in support of the anniversary.
On Thursday May 26th, the band, now under the 'Formerly of Bucks Fizz' banner will park the tour bus up at The Stables at Wavendon.
All the hits will air, and we have it on authority that skirt-ripping still figures!
Cheryl Baker went On Track with Total MK...
The song that first awakened your musical senses
Everly Brothers - Crying In The Rain
Physical or digital - how do you take your music?
If at home, CDs; on the road, my iPad or phone. I have never used an iPod.
The first time you thought 'Music - this is the job for me'
I was about four years old and used to sing in the park behind the block of flats I lived in, dressed in my mum’s clothes!
Your best on stage memory...
The Eurovision Song Contest, of course.
And the worst gig you've ever done
It was in a club in Birmingham. We were each given a different standard of mic and the sound system was appalling. We had to abandon the show after two songs.
What made you take up singing in particular
My confidence grew when I sang in an amateur operatic society and I knew then that I wanted to make singing my career.
Which one song by another artist do you wish you had written
“Kiss From A Rose” by Seal
And one - by yourself - which holds special significance
“Now Those Days Are Gone” because the vocals are fabulous and it is sung by the Mike Nolan!
If you could step into the shoes of another musician, living or dead, who would it be and what would you do?
Joni Mitchell singing “Big Yellow Taxi” at Wembley Stadium. I saw her there in the late-eighties and thought she was amazing and still do.
Are there any current musical influences that you might look to
I love the new country/rock artistes like Lady Antebellum and The Shires
And any genre of music that you simply can't stand?
I was never a fan of punk rock or heavy rock.
Finally, plug The Stables show
I have been to The Stables several times to see acts including my own twin daughters, Kyla and Natalie Stroud, and I am thrilled to be performing there at last.
The Stables has the most amazing reputation and the calibre of artists who have played there is phenomenal. I am so looking forward to joining that list.
