Singer-songwriter Jimmy Livingstone to play Milton Keynes show at The Stables

By music industry standards, Jimmy Livingstone is a late starter.

His working life has taken him from smelting foundries in the Black Country to being naked in a box at the ICA, from building sites to directing AAA video games.

But music has always been there, tapping on his shoulder, and his songs offer explicitly honest snapshots of a rich, chaotic life.

"Somehow I became a man with many hats but I’ve always aspired to the luxury of owning just one - the hat I sing in. Whatever job I've had to do, on the side I’ve been digging out my voice and learning how to articulate what I think and feel about the world through song. It was always about reaching somewhere that felt authentic. On a good day, I think I'm getting there'.

The British singer-songwriter toured with Lucinda Williams following the critical success of his first album, One eye Open, One Eye Closed, back in 2013.

Since then, he has been developing a loyal UK following, touring on his own.

As a recording artist, he conjures big production values out of thin air and downtime in studios, big and small, garages, bedrooms and basements. He is a magnet for high-flying musicians.

His first album was recorded in Los Angeles and the Mojave Desert where he hustled the likes of guitarist Doug Pettibone, (John Mayer and Lucinda Williams) and Frank Zappa’s brass section to play with him.

New long-player Airplane Mode, is out now. It was recorded in London and is a more British affair. The band includes Evan Jenkins on drums (Neil Cowley Trio, Van Morrison), Matt Round on bass (James Morrison, Billy Bragg), Doggen Foster (Spiritualised) and Matt White (Pete Docherty, Temperance Movement) on guitars.

It was recorded and mixed by Cameron Craig, Grammy winner for Adele's 25.

Jimmy is touring the UK as a trio, much-in-demand drummer, Evan Jenkins, and they play The Stables in Wavendon on Saturday (May 5).
